Baring it all in the name of art

Sisters Debbie Phearsdorf and Sherry Lawton of Olean got naked with 1,800 people last Sunday as part of photographer Spencer Tunick�s photo shoot at Buffalo�s abandoned Central Railroad Terminal.

Tunick has been photographing large groups of naked people at locations around the world since 1992.

Ms. Phearsdorf, 49, had seen an HBO special on his work several years ago.

One of Tunick's installations:

�When I saw in the paper that he was going to be in Buffalo, I called her (Ms. Lawton) and asked if she�d go up with me and be in the picture,� Ms. Phearsdorf said.
�I told her, �absolutely not,�� Ms. Lawton, 44, said.
But she changed her mind after looking at some of Tunick�s art on line, realizing he makes art, not pornography.

Both were apprehensive about taking their clothes off, but fear disappeared once everyone was naked.

Ms. Phearsdorf admits she�s on the plus-size of body types, �But there were all body types there, fat, skinny and everything in between,� she said. �If you had a fat butt, there was always someone ahead of you who had a wider butt than you do.�

In three to four months the sisters will receive a copy of their picture from Mr. Tunick.

�I can�t wait to frame it and hang it on a wall at home,� Ms. Phearsdorf said. �Hopefully we�ll be in one of his books someday.�
